Tips to get the most out of your planner

If you already have a planner, you'll know that it is an excellent tool for organizing yourself in a very simple, clear, and structured way. The truth is that having a planner helps us a lot to be more productive and to meet our commitments and tasks.

Getting the most out of your planner is always possible if you dedicate a little time to it, since these types of resources do not become a solution by themselves, but only when you work with a functional intention.

This means that it's not about having a planner and occasionally writing down your tasks or events, but rather keeping track of things so that it becomes your best ally.

    Tips for using your planner

As you know, you can use your planner to organize yourself monthly or weekly, with daily events contained within each week or month; so here are some tips to help you get the most out of your planner.

    1. Constant management: dedicate time to manage your planner, that is, to organize your activities, classify their importance, and project them in your planner. Maybe on Saturday or Sunday you can dedicate an hour to this task, but it's worth it, because that way you already have an order from the beginning that will help you be more productive throughout the week.

    2. Personalization: make your planner unique, with your style and to your liking, so that it is a resource you can turn to at any time, understand, and enjoy working with.

    1. Set goals: don't just use your planner to jot down tasks without having a goal, as it can turn into an overwhelming list of intentions. You need to set smart goals so you know what you want to achieve, by when, and how.

    1. Task list: generating these is great for ticking off what we've accomplished, so use your planner to know what you need to do in a day.

    1. Set periodicity for your tasks: linked to the previous point, it is necessary that each task within your planner has an execution time, even if it is 5 minutes or up to 2 hours, it is better to keep track.

    1. Concentrate your activities: it is important that your planner guides your organization of time and tasks, so you must concentrate all the activities you are going to do, and if you use another digital or physical tool, it should be aligned with the content of your planner.
    1. Divide and group tasks: it is essential that you divide task blocks by category within your planner for better organization, in addition to grouping similar tasks.
    1. Make notes: it's good to dedicate a space for notes and ideas between the division of your tasks; it always happens that you want to remember that important piece of information and it simply slips your mind.
    1. Forget multitasking: a recommendation to be more productive with your planner is to do one activity at a time and move on to the next only after you've crossed one off your list. When we try to multitask, we expend more energy, lose concentration, and sometimes we don't do either task well because we try to do them all at once.
    1. Start with what's urgent and/or most difficult: your planner allows you to see which tasks are most urgent or important, which are the ones you should do immediately; then focus on the most difficult because if you leave that task or postpone it until the end of the day, it is very likely that you will not do it and end up accumulating it for the next day.
