How to use a planner to achieve my New Year's goals

How many lists of resolutions must have been forgotten, only as good intentions, it even seems like it's taken as a joke to make a resolution that we know in advance we won't keep.

Many people don't keep their resolutions, and nothing happens; they don't even think about it. However, for personalities who like organization and productivity, this might be something they keep in mind.

For this, you need to acquire tools and techniques that help you plan your months, weeks, days, and all the activities you need to carry out to build the path that leads you to achieve your goals and dreams.

A planner is an excellent option, as it is a very visual, specific, and customizable tool that will help you organize your weeks.

Why aren't New Year's resolutions kept?

Resolutions are not kept because they are intentions to do something without a concrete visualization of the goal and without the systematization to achieve it. It's not so much that they are unattainable, but rather that no work is done towards them.

A planner helps you always keep in mind what you want and where you want to go. If instead of resolutions you see them as goals, you can set objectives, and if these are SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound), you will surely be able to achieve them.

In general, resolutions are not kept because there is a lack of commitment that drives the will to do them, either because:

    • It's unrealistic.
    • It's too general.
    • You don't have the steps to work on it.
    • Deep down, it's not a priority.
    • It's not valued enough to make achieving the goal relevant.
    • Because a long list of resolutions is made (you know, one for each grape), and it's better to focus on 2 or 3 more concrete goals.

Use a planner to keep your resolutions

A planner puts you into action, as you can organize each month and week with specific objectives that will pave the way towards your goal. For example, one of the most common resolutions is to lose weight.

If you don't know how much weight you need to lose within a healthy balance, it becomes just a wish. Once you know how many kilos, you will understand what you need to do to reach that figure, because if it's 10 kilos, you won't lose them in a month. You have to divide it for health reasons, and you might achieve it in several weeks (according to what your doctor tells you).

By organizing your exercise for each week, the menu for each of your meals and snacks, then you will have clear steps to achieve it. To clarify your goal, you must truly think about why you want it and visualize yourself there so that you work with conviction; otherwise, it's easy to give up on your path.
